When the tomatoes spoke of friendship, community & love...
As we drove over to Columbus Ave for the Bountiful Garden Project last Saturday, let me tell you there is no way you can miss out Franks house. Of course the Pile of Dirt in the Driveway is a giveaway but more so the Enthusiasm & Spirit of the Young men with Spades filling up containers with dirt is sure an Inspiration. The Bountiful Garden Project banner greets you as u walk into the Drive-way.
And then when u pause and listen... there is more to this than meets the eye - I am sure the passer-by's are wondering. There is 'Call of the Divine' playing in the backyard and lots of noises of happiness & joy...
The backyard is where the PARTY is on in FULL Swing. :-)
There are arrays and arrays of pots and sapling...AMidst them there are enthusiastic people and kids with SMILE as bright as the Sun walking around.. filling pots.. spraying Vitamin D... planting saplings... spreading cheer.. and then there is Big Brother Frank - the father figure looming in the background.. taking care of every single detail... There is Veena of course, with her Red-Apron assigning folks tasks as they come in, cheering up and keeping the spirits high. (And she has the best Collection of Indian and Bhajan). There were so many folks who came just through craiglist and some non-aol email groups I sent. It was fun to meet all of them. The kids were having a Ball!! And of course, sometimes down the lane the Zoo opened up for viewing.
Wondering what zoo - Snakes, Lizards and few other interesting Pets from Franks Galore.. :-)
Kids were all fascinated to touch, kiss, hug..
Well!! I understood why Kids are Gods.. They have Utter Belongingness to everyone Indeed!! And then arrived Asha with her Chef Hat on and tools.. Kitchen got rolling.. tea was being served and lunch was cooking. And what a assorted Menu we had! It was quite a Treat!! Kids as well as Adults had a finger licking good time...
Saturday & Sunday must have seen around 30-40 volunteers who dropped by. We got quite a lot of work done but we need all the more help this coming weekend! We have a greater task ahead of us this weekend and we really hope that more of you can join us and see every tomato seedling transplanted. Actually this whole week Frank is on the job on his own. So if u have free time, please call him and help him out during the wee as well.
See you guys this weekend! Mar 15/16
