My visit back in time..

Yesterday I travelled down memory lane and met Gandhiji, and Vinoda Bave. I had a glimpse of what Gandhiji's satyagraha must have been like, what Vinoda Bave compassion was like, and how meeting them in person would have been like...

It all happened through the presence of Krishnaammal at Nipun's wednesday meditation
Krishnammal Jagannathan and Sankaralingam Jagannathan are two lifelong activists for social justice, and for sustainable human development, working with those who are at the lowest rung of the social ladder. They have carried the Gandhian legacy into the 21st century, never ceasing to serve the needs of Dalits, landless and those threatened by the greed of landlords and multinational corporations. Krishnaammal is the recipeint of the Right Livelihood Award 2008.

Just meeting her you realise that she is such simple being established every moment of her life in knowing the Divine, every moment she spends in self enquiry. It is like she is walking and living in the midst of us but so untouched! I remember Gurudev's word from Astavakra - 'Niranjan' - meaning untouched, pure! When she spoke about light and compassion and non-violence, and her times with Gandhiji and Vinobaji, I was totally transported into time. And to know that even today in the this high-tech world there is a Gandhian - there is amma! Her stories were so life transforming. Her effort has been ongoing for over 40years with the landlords and it is still going on.

One of the most important thins she said is ' You dont give up to see the light in the other person however they may be'. The Divine light in you is also inherent in that person. You need to pray to that Divine light and it will manifest in that person too. And she has seen this happen again & again in her life. So much patience! In this time, we want everything instant - patience is so lost! We give up so soon.

She is getting all these awards. And I could see that she is so untouched by them.

She completely changed the flow of the evening. :)
There was no order. I was remembering Gurudev. How the plan is totally gone off the window. Usually we meditate for an hour before the evening begins. Around 35 minutes into the meditation, I heard ammas voice talking about meditation. And I could only smile! She is in a different reality and flow. And then she spoke about her journey - it was beautiful to hear her speak. For me more than the words she uttered, her presence radiated much more power. I was experiencing the strength of an Indian Woman, strength of someone who has seen pre-independent india. They are a completely different genre of people!

She was telling everyone to do self enquiry every living moment, and to be established in your Self. She said she doesnt even much care now for having a bath or brushing her teeth. She chooses to spend every bit of her time in memory of the Divine and doing his work.

I went her took her Ashirvad at the end. It was beautiful to be in her presence! So much love - Divine Mother towards every single one. She had gone beyond being a mother to her child and now every cell of her being radiated love and the Divine Mom! And i was thrilled when she told ne she is a great friend of Gurudev! I had to laugh to hear that! She is also coming for Women's conference. Gurudev actually asked her to come to Dallas when he was there. I dont know if she met him there.

My day was made to have met such a Divine Being .. who has dedicated every moment of her life to service and self-enquiry.

Amma, I look forward to seeing you int he Bangalore Ashram!
Jai Gurudev
