It all began this semester with reinstating the Art of Living Students Club on campus. Many from the club had passed out and newer members had joined. And of course, for the first time we had someone from the undergrad - Hayden Marcus. And Hayden, myself, Aparna had taken the YES+ in Stanford in April. It was purely an exhilarating &experience - both physically, mentally & emotionally!! We experienced heightened awareness, energy levels and enthusiasm in us!! It was perfect BOOSTER-SHOT for the Youth of Today!! And it was then we had decided that we will bring this course to SJSU!!
Endless talking to students, meeting with faculty, sitting patiently at tables/booths, from baking vegan cookies & brownies to painting sign-boards, hosting Leadership & Meditation seminars, meeting with various clubs on campuses, conducting stress survey on campus, putting posters & flyers in almost every department - we really went ALL OUT!!
And every time we felt the need for YES+ more & more. We began to feel the stress in the students, in the faculty - either they were in complete oblivion/denial or just didn't want to do anything about it!!
Of course, YES!+ is a time commitment as it runs over 6 consecutive days (in the evening on weekdays and daytime during weekends) but then it is a lifetime investment. When you look at all the time we waste in gossiping, watching TV, just lying down, sleeping, getting stressed - it is the BEST BARGAIN!! One YES!+ and you are set for Life!! But then it is always what is BEST for us that we RESIST the most!!
The break through came in the form of our club advisor Suzy ROss who really helped us a lot. And of course, Associated Students!! They approving funding for students to take the workshop. And still we found that the intelligent ones were not many who saw through the time-commitment to the VALUE vested in the workshop!!
We continued patiently reaching out to as many as we can!! And after much waiting finally YES+ Plus began in San Jose State University on Tue, Oct 23rd with a count of 18 which included SJSU alumini and students. We could have had much more but then common sense is very uncommon!! :-)
And we had the BEST instructor for the WORKSHOP - NATALIE. She is the Youth Director for Katrina Relief, UN Youth Representative for Art of Living.
The workshop began with a BANG!!
Everyone experienced such HIGH-DOZE of ENERGY, ENTHUSIASM and yet, a relaxation beyond description!!
I am looking forward to day 2 of the workshop today ... Wed, Oct 24th...
Till then - CIAO!!
