YES Plus empowers students @SJSU

"Just information is not education. It is culturing our behavior, culturing our attitude and the ability to perceive things better. Perception, Observation and Expression - the three aspects of education have to be improved."
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder of the Art of Living Foundation

YES Plus - Come and Become the Warrior for Global Change .

YES!+ provides young adults between the ages of 18-27 with tools to achieve their ideal life with ease, creativity, energy, and inhibition-free. This program challenges young people to reach their highest potential and has made a difference to thousands across the world. October saw the YES Plus making its way into San Jose State University through the Art of Living Students Organization. The coolest thing was that the Art of Living Club with the Associated Students offered scholarship for students to attend the workshop. Twenty students including sophomores, juniors and graduate students, as well as members of the alumni took the 6-day YES plus workshop held at the Spartan Complex between Oct 23 to Oct 28th.

“YES+ has definitely been a huge eye opener for me in many ways. It’s made me become more of an activist and I feel a lot better about myself. The course lifted my spirits so much that it gave me the self confidence of achieving anything I want,” says Maheem Akhtar, the 20-year-old conservation and organismal biology major, who participated.

The Workshop is packed with Fun-Filled processes, Role Playing, Stretching ones Comfort Zone, Dance & Music & never ending array of activities ...

The “magic pill” that YES Plus offers is the Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY), which is a rhythmic breathing technique, tailor-made to the needs of youngsters between the age group of 18 to 30. AoLF partners with individuals and organizations alike to teach the SKY practice. People can continue doing a certain job or get involved with any other service organization they might choose to, but SKY helps in performing that same task with renewed energy and vibrancy.

The organization honors diversity, in fact the whole idea is to stretch one’s comfort zones and bring up the energy level, and that can be achieved by using something very basic and universal – the breath.

Rekha Kodialbail, volunteer of AoLF, and coordinator of the YES Plus workshop in SJSU, says, “It’s important to get the youth of today equipped with these tools when still young, as they are more adaptive now. If the youth can learn how to live in a stressful environment at the same time knowing how to get rid of the stress from their system without letting it rule their lives, then they are empowered to think about bigger issues in the society much sooner in life.”

One of the cool things about the YES Plus workshop is it empowers the youth to actively take responsibility for everything happening in and around them - be it Environment Sustainability, Eradicating Poverty and supporting the UN Millennium goals, Moving towards being a Vegetarian or Vegan diet, Speaking out for the animal rights, Speaking against injustice around the world. The Spirit of Activism is one of the Key Components of the Workshop.

YES Plus empowers the youth of today with tools to Stand Up for Truth and Justice, and actively bring about a change in the world from becoming the change themselves.
